Considering a career in recruitment?
Type ‘career in recruitment’ into Google and you’ll pull up a thousands of definitions, formal job descriptions, and profiles. But’s what’s a career in recruitment really like? Well, we thought we’d let our consultants give you the inside scoop.
“I started in Kinetic in August 2011, and I really didn’t know what I was letting myself in for! Although I’d come from a sales and account management background back in Ireland in the FMCG and pharmaceuticals industry, I’d never thought of moving into recruitment, let alone in the construction industry! I always thought of recruitment as more of a HR role and not a sales based role. My first couple of months in the role were very exciting yet challenging; meeting new people, learning my market, understanding the project life cycle, the different players in the industry and who does what. What I quickly realised is that recruitment is a very competitive industry, but, if you put the hard yards in and are consistent, the results are very rewarding. It takes a lot of patience, persistence and drive to be successful in recruitment. I’ve learnt that if you provide a high quality service and see things through, the role gets easier as time goes on. I enjoy the element of working with companies long term, understanding their needs, their visions and where they are looking to take their business. I work best when I am entrenched with companies and they relate to me as an extension of their business. The biggest reward and recognition you get from this industry, is when clients work with you exclusively and on a repeat basis, and furthermore, they refer you to other businesses in the industry. “
“I joined Kinetic straight after leaving defence after 22 years. I have been with Kinetic now for three years. The position has allowed me to remain in an industry that I have known most of my life and to continue to support businesses that support the ADF.”
